Tablet Evolution presented by Motorola

Ever heard of aggressive advertising? Yes the same ones which leave the competitor with a speechless. Motorola seems to have taken that to another level with their CES 2011 video!

The video starts off with various forms of “tablets” including Egyptian Hieroglyphic tablets and Moses’ Ten Commandments. In the end the video calls the iPad as “a giant iPhone” and moving on to the Galaxy Tab, it says the tablet runs on “Android meant for a phone”. It concludes with the camera moving to Motorola’s unveiled masterpiece with a bee hovering towards the shiny new red Motorola logo. The bee probably indicates the tablet could be running on the Honeycomb OS.

With all the excitement building up, we’re all waiting to see what the ‘Motopad’ will bring to the table. Till then, check out the video above and tell us how you feel about it.

Antarctic ozone hole smallest in 5 years

International efforts to phase out the use of chlorofluorocarbons and other ozone-depleting substances may be paying off, according to research revealed Friday by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in New Zealand.

The Antarctica ozone hole is the smallest it has been in the past five years, NIWA said.
While a one-year reduction in the ozone hole can’t indicate a recovery stage, NIWA’s atmospheric experts say the new information adds to a pattern of less severe ozone holes in recent years.
Satellite data combined with ground-base measurements, including the Antarctica New Zealand Arrival Heights observatory near Scott Base, show the hole reached a maximum area of about 22 million square kilometers (about 8.5 million square miles) and a 27 million ton deficit of ozone this year, compared with 24 million square kilometers (about 9.3 million square miles) and a 35 million ton deficit last year.
The largest hole, according to NIWA, was 29 million square kilometers (about 11.2 million square miles) and a 43 million ton deficit, recorded in 2000.

"We see a lot of year-to-year variation in ozone holes, caused by differences in atmospheric temperature and circulation," said NIWA atmospheric scientist Stephen Wood in a prepared statement. "So we can't definitively say the ozone hole is improving from one new year of observations."
"However, we have now had a few years in succession with less severe holes," Wood said. "That is an indication we may be beginning to see a recovery."
The Antarctic ozone hole forms in August and September each year, remaining until it breaks up in November or December.

The 1987 Montreal Protocol is an international convention phasing out the use of ozone-depleting substances such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other man made halogen compounds.
While it's referred to as a "hole," the term refers to a large area of the stratosphere with extremely low amounts of ozone.

The ozone layer protects all life from the sun's harmful radiation, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, noting ozone depletion is a global issue and not just a problem at the South Pole.
Less protection from ultraviolet light will, over time, lead to higher skin cancer and cataract rates and crop damage, the EPA says. The U.S., in cooperation with 190 other countries, is phasing out the production of ozone-depleting substances.

CFCs were used in refrigerants, solvents, foam blowing agents, and in other smaller applications, the EPA says. CFCs do not dissolve in the rain, only exposure to strong UV radiation breaks them down, and that releases chlorine atoms that destroy up to 100,000 times their number of ozone molecules.
By contrast, chlorine from swimming pools, industrial plants and volcanoes doesn't reach the stratosphere, but does wash out of the atmosphere when rain falls.

The EPA credits measures taken under the Montreal Protocol for falling emissions of ozone-depleting substances. Natural ozone production process will heal the ozone layer in about 50 years, it says.
Continued monitoring and measurements may reveal soon if "we are really seeing the start of a sustained, long-term recovery,

5 types of women men can't stand

We all know what women don't like in men, but do we have even the slightest idea about what type of women put off men? Here is the lowdown on the personality types men don't like at all.

Cribber: Women who crib, talk negatively and belittle people are a great turn-off. Sure we all have our bags full of complaints, but it is one thing to complain once in a while, and it's something else to crib big time 24x7 about every issue or every person one comes across. Men can't understand why a woman has to crib and bitch all the time. Either you do something about the issue or stop complaining - it's as simple as that.

Weight-watcher: 'Oh can't have beer, it has 150 calories', 'I must hit the gym everyday' - if these are your favourite catchwords, you have trouble coming your way. There is only so much diet, exercise regimens men can take and if you are too conscious, a man is likely to be exasperated. Women need to know when to give in 'without throwing their weight around'!

In-law basher: Agreed only the fortunate are blessed with a good set of in-laws. So if you are not one of the lucky ones, will you constantly bash them up verbally? They are somebody's parents and if you don't have anything nice to say something about them, don't say anything. How does that sound?

Worker bee: If you are buzzing nineteen to a dozen only about the presentations you have to make for the boss, deadlines, colleagues, HR head and the office janitor - it's obvious you have nothing else to talk about. A man may want to know about your interests, your views on him, and more, but you prefer to hide behind 'work' all the time. If you want a man, any man actually - get a life first.

Agony aunt: There are some women who constantly feel they are an 'advisory body'. They feel it is their business to hear out the whines of everyone around them and suggest suitable solutions. They are so deeply involved in this part-time job that they inadvertently sound like they are advising you as well. Nobody wants to date a mom, you know.

Aamir, the Emperor Khan!

An actor par excellence, award winning director ('Taare Zameen Par'), and a hit producer ('Lagaan', 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'), Aamir Khan brings to the Bollywood screen a will to experiment and a desire to be perfect.

The most bankable actor of recent times, Aamir Khan is the darling of the "thinking film buff".
On the eve of his latest production venture, 'Peepli Live', we walk you through the life of Aamir Khan.

Aamir Khan is the son of renowned film producer Tahir Hussain.
He started his career as a child actor in 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat'.
His ticket to fame was 1988's 'Qayamat se Qayamat Tak'.

"My parents looked after us very well... we had a fairly sheltered life. I mean my parents were really against me getting into films. I come from a film family. My father and uncle were both filmmakers. And I faced hell at home. It was like there's no way you're getting into films," said Aamir.

Aamir fell in love with his neighbour Reena Dutta and married her soon after turning 21, much against the wishes of both their families. The marriage produced two children and lasted 16 years, ending in divorce, in 2002.
He married Kiran Rao in 2005.
Landmark movies of Aamir Khan include: 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander', 'Andaaz Apna Apna', 'Rangeela', 'Raja Hindustani', 'Ishq', 'Ghulam', 'Sarfarosh', 'Lagaan', 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Mangal Pandey', 'Rang De Basanti', 'Taare Zameen Par', 'Ghajini' and '3 Idiots'.
Says Aamir: "I am not really interested in power. I think it's important to know what one can really do with the power. According to me, power is how one uses it. I can be very powerful but if I can't use it for any good or can't contribute to the industry then I am actually powerless. I would like to use my power by working with new directors, giving new actors to the industry and making experimental films."
His upcoming movies are 'Dhobi Ghaat' and 'Lajjo'.
Aamir's directorial debut 'Taare Zameen Par' was the official entry of India to Oscars in 2008
Aamir's 'Ghajini' is India's biggest grosser ever. The movie grossed Rs 3 billion worldwide.
Rumours are rife that Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle has approached Aamir for his next venture.
Aamir has taken a break from acting until early next year to concentrate on his three home productions - 'Delhi Belly', 'Dhobi Ghaat' and 'Peepli Live'.

Aamir is India's first celebrity blogger. He blogs @ www.aamirkhan.com.
He is the brand ambassador of Coca Cola, Parle G, Titan, Toyota Innova, Tata Sky and Samsung. He was recently appointed the Brand Ambassador for Tourism Ministry's Atithi Devo Bhava campaign.
He is also a hit playback singer with numbers like "Aati Kya Khandala" from 'Ghulam' and "Bum Bum Bole" from 'Taare Zameen Par' topping the music charts.
Aamir says he only accepts meaningful awards.

To cut it’s looong nose short, and to put it into one sentence, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG could be described as taking a big step into the past and a giant’s leap into the future.

The very essence of it, the exterior design, was made to bring about flashbacks of the company’s glorious racing era as well as resemble one particular model, one they called the ‘Widowmaker’. And that it does extremely well.

But what’s an AMG without a huge displacing, explosive sounding, 500 HP plus engine? That is where the guys in Germany seem to have got it spot on. Apart from when you’re standing drop-dead staring at it, most things about the SLS will hint at the future. So we should certainly feel privileged that now, if you fancy driving on the inside circumference of a tunnel, and ofcourse if your bank balance allows it so, you could go out and buy your very own RHD SLS AMG in India.

Mercedes-Benz launched the ‘super sports car’ in India yesterday, and the specs stay the same with the 6.3 litre V8 AMG engine, an AMG sports steering and a high-performance braking system, a 3-stage ESP and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed tranny all present to name a few. It is also the same car that has been doing the rounds this Formula One season as the Safety Car, so track experience certainly hasn’t been kept to a minimum while the company claims it has already received 10 bookings since it was displayed at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi, thus meaning exclusivity is no issue so far. And for those of you who wondered about the advertisement being shown on TV, the company also claims that it was a dry sump lubrication system that enabled Michael Schumacher to become a professional stuntman.

Fans may not know much about the real Michael Jackson, but he gave us many cultural moments, things that are iconic to him and will be for decades to come, including this Swarovski crystal glove he wore on his Victory Tour.

“In Michael’s lifetime he was extremely controversial and a lot of people dismissed him as weird and questioned his relationship with children, and in a sad way his death was redemptive,” said Boteach. “I think people began to understand the whole tragedy of his life. In America poverty as tragic, child abuse as tragic, but fame and money is a blessing. But to Michael it never was. Those were not the things that he wanted. What we all seemed to have, that he lacked, was a normal life.”

“Michael searched for love, he ultimately settled for attention. All the things you describe — the large fan base, being at the top of the charts — that’s not about love, that’s about attention,” said Boteach. “Michael felt the pressure to keep on doing, and that’s ultimately what wore him out and made him so lifeless and lethargic. He didn’t have any more that he could give.”
